Protecting public figures with AI powered gun detection

We’ve recently had another tragic shooting of a public figure, with the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk in Utah reverberating around the globe.

Deaths from shootings whether related to street crime, political violence or at schools, are becoming all too common across the United States.

● To understand the principles of protecting a public figure, consider three zones of protection, with the person to be protected being in the middle of three zones.

● The first zone extends out about five meters. Bodyguards are most effective at this range and can directly engage an attacker.

● The next zone extends from 15 to 50 metres, which can be controlled via a security perimeter or barriers, as long as the area has controlled access.

● The last zone extends out from 50 metres to 300 metres or more. This zone is the most difficult area to protect against because a sniper can be concealed on a roof, invisible from ground level.

A proficient military trained sniper can take a kill shot from more than 1000 metres, with some shots ranging up to 3,000 metres but assassination attempts of public figures are usually from a closer distance.

Drones can be used to patrol large areas protecting the vulnerable outer zone. These provide visibility of roof tops but it can be difficult for human operators to detect weapons when there are large crowds as well as multiple potential sniper vantage points to monitor.
